THE LAW OF REGIVING (USE) |
||||||||||||||||
To serve, not to be served, is the highest end of man; and the greatest man is the man who in his gifts and actions, whether intellectual or moral, is the means of the greatest amount of use to his fellow-men. Frank Sewall |

Be still, and know that I am God... Psalm 46:10 The omnipresence and omniscience of the Lord can be comprehended also from the creation of the universe; for it was so created by Him that He is in things first and in things last, in the center and at the same time in the circumferences, and that the things in which He is are uses. Emanuel Swedenborg [AE 1226] Scientists have recently discovered that the torus or vortex figures prominently in the structure of the universe. The essential shape of Love is a torus or vortex. Since Love is the only self-existent substance in the universe, it must continually return into itself. Every thing proceeds (involves) from God (Love) and returns (evolves) to God (Love). Our own will is God’s gift of His own substance (Love) to us. However, we are free to use this gift of Love wisely or to misuse and abuse it.
Swedenborg refers to the Law of regiving as the Law of use, as regiving and use are synonymous. On Earth, this usefulness begins in the mineral kingdom. The soil is useful to plants which grow in it and feed on its minerals. Plants are useful to animals which are nourished by grasses, vegetables and fruits. And gentle animals such as horses, oxen, goats and sheep provide transportation, milk, meat, wool and leather for the benefit of man. But, what about man? Man can also fulfill his universal responsibility by being useful to his fellow humans on earth and to angels and God in Heaven. This is accomplished by understanding Truth, reciprocating Love and doing what is useful, wise and just. Thus, all existential beings are interconnected through utility. Usefulness generates joy in all beings and this joy returns to God as Love. However, due to the spiritual fall of mankind, human beings have become confused with regard to their real purpose and function on Earth. And many foolish persons continue to believe that they will attain happiness by fulfilling their selfish desires and accumulating wealth for their own selfish power and glory in the world. Hence, humans regularly commit sin when they mistreat, misuse and abuse their fellow humans as well as minerals, plants and animals. Like humans, plants and animals have God-given rights and responsibilities; they have the right to live and exist in harmony with nature. Thus, when we understand how the universe was designed, we know that those who abuse their power on earth will only end up in bondage, addiction and suffering. Real joy and Love only result from regiving or using our resources in service to others. This is how Love continues to be realized in Heaven and on Earth. So God is conceived of as himself existing only to serve, and in finding the fullest and divinest satisfaction in the service of others than himself. God is the great creator and never-resting performer of uses. The whole universe is a great work of uses, and not the smallest atom exists in its material depths, nor the purest angel in its celestial spheres, which is not actuated wholly by this one universal divine law of life, and order, and happiness, the mutual service of things. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS This makes sense but I have nothing to give? When human beings think of giving, they always think about giving things and money. Believe me, right now, most human beings are more in need of Love and Wisdom than of things. In fact, some are full of possessions and yet they continue to feel worthless. This is because our inner being, power and value originate from the Love in our heart and the Wisdom in our mind. Walter Russell, the man who discovered the law of regiving, started with nothing. Nevertheless, he began to give love, kindness and service to others. He treated every one with the utmost care and respect. But, since the world is our own reflection, this giving reflected itself in many unusual ways. He became a sculptor and architect and never sought any work. People came to him. This was the reflection of his giving. Therefore, we must change our whole attitude from one of constant desiring and getting to one of giving, regiving and usefulness. We must stop worrying about our survival needs, be useful to others and God, and do things freely and lovingly. In fact, God created the universe in order to give. When we have Love in our heart, it will manifest as Peace, Joy and Prosperity in our life. “I have absolute faith that anything can come to the one who trusts to the unlimited help of the Universal Intelligence that is within so long as one works within the law and always gives more to others than they expect, and does it cheerfully and courteously.” Walter Russell Why should I give of myself when the world is greedy, selfish and cruel? The world that you experience is your own reflection. When you cease to be selfish, begin to be useful and love others, you will begin to meet people who reflect your own kindness and love. We should in fact have compassion for those who are greedy, selfish and cruel because they are creating their own inner hell. Usefulness is the law of Heaven and selfishness is the law of hell. How is Love reciprocated (or reflected) through usefulness? |

All beings in the universe are essentially vortices that are connected through Love. Therefore, when we observe the vortical galaxies that are in the image above, we notice that they all possess an independent and separate self. Yet, they are all equally connected by the Love that is within their heart or center because Love is omnipresent. Now, let us assume these are human beings (or vortices). What happens when we practice usefulness towards one or many of these human beings (vortices)? Well, this usefulness generates joy and love within our own heart as well as theirs. And, this Love is equally experienced and reciprocated by God because God is Love itself. Through this process, Love grows, multiplies and expands in Heaven and earth. And the more unselfish Love we have within our heart, the more joy and peace we experience in our life. |

Man has free right to choose his own actions, but he must balance those actions with equal and opposite reactions until he learns that God’s one law must be obeyed. This God holds inviolate. |
