THE SCIENCE OF LIGHT

ang4321

Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honor and majesty:  Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment... Psalm CIV

Divine love and wisdom are substance and form in themselves, thus the one and only absolute. E. Swedenborg

THE LAW OF REGIVING (USE)

To serve, not to be served, is the highest end of man; and the greatest man is the man who in his gifts and actions, whether intellectual or moral, is the means of the greatest amount of use to his fellow-men. Frank Sewall

Be still, and know that I am God...  Psalm 46:10
Stand still and watch the salvation of the Lord... Exodus 12:13

The omnipresence and omniscience of the Lord can be comprehended also from the creation of the universe; for it was so created by Him that He is in things first and in things last, in the center and at the same time in the circumferences, and that the things in which He is are uses. Emanuel Swedenborg [AE 1226]

Scientists have recently discovered that the torus or vortex figures prominently in the structure of the universe. The essential shape of Love is a torus or vortex. Since Love is the only self-existent substance in the universe, it must continually  return into itself. Every thing proceeds (involves) from God (Love) and returns (evolves) to God (Love). Our own will is God’s gift of His own substance (Love) to us. However, we are free to use this gift of Love wisely or to misuse and abuse it.

Based upon this discovery, we can conclude that the universe is not objective; it is self-aware, self-sustaining and  projective. The outer reality that each being experiences in the universe is a projection of his own inner reality or self. This completely changes our idea about how the universe operates.

In a projective universe, the center is everywhere and the circumference is at infinity.

God is at the center or heart of all being and at the infinite extremities. The Divine Center of stillness is in equilibrum and freedom. God   maintains and restores freedom, equilibrium and justice in the universe. This means that, if you are still poor, it is not because you did not receive enough; it is because you have not given enough of yourself. If you are still sick, it is not because the universe is cruel; it is because you are not using your body for the good and useful purpose it was designed. If you are not being loved, it is because you have not loved others more than yourself.  If you do not give after receiving, you are stopping the flow of goodness and causing your own misery. It is impossible to inhale without first exhaling.

Pro444The universe is the means by which the Lord gives and receives spiritual Light or Divine Love and Wisdom. This universal action of involution and evolution can be clearly seen in  the shape of a spiral galaxy. We must give of our self to the universe in order to receive back the universe into our own self. The arms of a spiral galaxy are creating, giving and regiving Light. This action is repeated on all lower levels. For example, when we create a family, we are giving of our self and being useful to our spouse and children. This is how we experience real joy and receive love from our family.

The eye of the hurricane or galaxy represents the point of equilibrium that sustains and balances all actions in the universe.  This point is the point of freewill. By freely giving of yourself, you are creating an inner vacuum that has to be filled by the universe in order to re-establish the state of equilibrium. The universe must return to your self what it has freely given. In contrast, by continuously taking from the universe without giving back, you are creating  an outer vacuum that will take away from you of what you already have.

The human heart or will was designed to produce this balanced action of giving, receiving and regiving. The only reason you should want to receive from the universe is so that you are able to give back to others.  It is from this loving action that angels derive all their joy in Heaven. To try to fulfill your desires by continuously taking from the universe produces a perpetual outer vacuum that can never be filled. This is the lust, greed and misery that are experienced in the darkness of hell.

Like galaxies, all beings in the universe are centers of consciousness that are giving, receiving, regiving  and sharing spiritual Light or Love and Wisdom. In Heaven, this action is perfectly balanced between angels and the Lord. In fact, to be holy or righteous is to perfectly balance the giving and receiving of Love and Wisdom within one's self. But, as we very well know, on Earth, this action by human beings is not balanced and this causes all the problems  in society.

Swedenborg refers to the Law of regiving as the Law of use, as regiving and use are synonymous. On Earth, this usefulness begins in the mineral kingdom. The soil is useful to plants which grow in it and feed on its minerals. Plants are useful to animals which are nourished by grasses, vegetables and fruits. And gentle animals such as horses, oxen, goats and sheep provide transportation, milk, meat, wool and leather for the benefit of man. But, what about man? Man can also fulfill his universal responsibility by being useful to his fellow humans on earth and to angels and God in Heaven. This is accomplished by understanding Truth, reciprocating Love and doing what is useful, wise and just. Thus, all existential beings are interconnected through utility. Usefulness generates joy in all beings and this joy returns to God as Love.

However, due to the spiritual fall of mankind, human beings have become confused with regard to their real purpose and function on Earth. And many foolish persons continue to believe that they will attain happiness by fulfilling their selfish desires and accumulating wealth for their own selfish power and glory in the world. Hence, humans regularly commit sin when they mistreat, misuse and abuse their fellow humans as well as minerals, plants and animals. Like humans, plants and animals have God-given rights and responsibilities; they have the right to live and exist in harmony with nature. Thus, when we understand how the universe was designed, we know that those who abuse their power on earth will  only end up in bondage, addiction and suffering. Real joy and Love only result from regiving or using our resources in service to others. This is how Love continues to be realized in Heaven and on Earth.

So God is conceived of as himself existing only to serve, and in finding the fullest and divinest satisfaction in the service of others than himself. God is the great creator and never-resting performer of uses. The whole universe is a great work of uses, and not the smallest atom exists in its material depths, nor the purest angel in its celestial spheres, which is not actuated wholly by this one universal divine law of life, and order, and happiness, the mutual service of things.

Says Swedenborg, in his work on The Divine Love and Wisdom, No. 327 : " All things created by the Lord are uses; and they are uses in the order, degree, and respect in which they have relation to man and by man to the Lord " their Creator."

There is a conatus, a struggling and yearning of Nature from her inmost and subtlest particles to be of use to something above herself. The sun's heat and light, combining with the elements of the soil, strive to help the seed to germinate ; the plants crowd and push in the dark ground until they can shoot joyfully upward, and offer their whole being as nourishment, protection, or refreshment to either the bodily or affectional life of the animal kingdom. The lower animals serve the higher; all the lower kingdoms serve man, and man serves God in a true sense only by serving his fellow-man. This sublime law of use, which, like all things of divine completeness and majesty, is at once a type of simplicity and humility, found indeed its highest embodiment in Him who proved His own Divinity among men, not by receiving the homage of inferior creatures, but by doing the works of God, and who, as if to write forever in the mind of humanity the noblest of all legends of perfect as betokening the true knight-errantry to which all mankind is by nature called and consecrated, uttered once, in the hearing of men, these words : " I am among you as one that serves."  Frank Sewall

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

This makes sense but I have nothing to give?

When human beings think of giving, they always think about giving things and money. Believe me, right now, most human beings are more in need of Love and Wisdom than of things. In fact, some are full of possessions and yet they continue to feel worthless. This is because our inner being, power and value originate from the Love in our heart and the Wisdom in our mind.

Walter Russell, the man who discovered the law of regiving, started with nothing. Nevertheless, he began to give love, kindness and service to others. He treated every one with the utmost care and respect. But, since the world is our own reflection, this giving reflected itself in many unusual ways. He became a sculptor and architect and never  sought any work. People came to him. This was the reflection of his giving.

Therefore, we must change our whole attitude from one of constant desiring and getting to one of giving, regiving and usefulness. We must stop worrying about our survival needs, be useful to others and God, and do things freely and lovingly. In fact, God created the universe in order to give. When we have Love in our heart, it will manifest as Peace, Joy and Prosperity in our life.

I have absolute faith that anything can come to the one who trusts to the unlimited help of the Universal Intelligence that is within so long as one works within the law and always gives more to others than they expect, and does it cheerfully and courteously.” Walter Russell

Why should I give of myself when the world is greedy, selfish and cruel?

The world that you experience is your own reflection. When you cease to be selfish, begin to be useful and love others, you will  begin to meet people who reflect your own kindness and love. We should in fact have compassion for those who are greedy, selfish and cruel because they are creating their own inner hell. Usefulness is the law of Heaven and selfishness is the law of hell.

How is Love reciprocated (or reflected)  through usefulness?

All beings in the universe are essentially vortices that are connected through Love. Therefore, when we observe the vortical galaxies that are in the image above, we notice that they all possess an independent and separate self. Yet, they are all equally connected by the Love that is within their heart or center because Love is omnipresent.   Now, let us assume these are human beings (or vortices). What happens when we practice usefulness towards one or many of these human beings (vortices)? Well, this usefulness generates joy and love within our own heart as well as theirs. And, this  Love is equally experienced and reciprocated by God because God is Love itself. Through this process, Love grows, multiplies and expands in Heaven and earth. And the more unselfish Love we have within our heart, the more joy and peace we experience in our life.

Man has free right to choose his own actions, but he must balance those actions with equal and opposite reactions until he learns that God’s one law must be obeyed. This God holds inviolate.
The whole purpose of life is to learn how to manifest God in Truth and the Law. The lesson is a hard one but man, himself, makes it hard by his unknowing of the law. As man gradually knows his purpose and the law by knowing God in him, life becomes more and more beautiful, and man more powerful in his manifestation of power.
Man’s power lies in giving. He must learn to give as Nature gives. Each half of a cycle eternally gives to the other half for re-giving. Nature forever unfolds into many for the purpose of refolding into one. Each individual must manifest this universal law.
The desire of some so-called “apron string” parents to run their children’s lives for them, often claiming that they have sacrificed their very own lives for them, are taking from their children – not giving. They are taking away the initiative children need to complete their own cycles: they must live their own lives for themselves.
Man must know the principle of Creation: giving between each interchanging opposite half of each cycle for the purpose of repeating its giving. This is universal law and each individual must manifest this law.
Man will forever war with man until he learns to give his all with the full expectation of equal receiving, and never taking that which is not given as an earned reward for his giving.
